Today's Tip

Protect The Valve When Pumping - An important valve tip: they're not indestructible. They're at the most risk when you're pumping up the tire using your frame-mounted pump. To protect the valve, always support it by holding the end of the pump that's on the valve in such a way that you can hook a thumb or finger over the tire. That way, as you push to inflate the tire, you're pushing against your hand and not the valve, which will bend or break if you push against it alone.

Cycling Glossary - Word of the Day

seat

This is a term used when installing bicycle tires (car tires too). To "seat" a tire, or "seating" tires means getting the tire beads (the edges of the tire) sitting just right on the rim. When you spin the wheel and watch the bead lines on both sides, they should sit just above the rim all around the wheel. If they dip or bulge anywhere, let the air out of the tire and try again or the tire might come off.
